Promoting Your Film

One thing I've been taught from pals who have made independent films is that you have got to start pushing your film the minute it is complete as an interesting point, don't wait, as quickly as you have got a title run with it. This is your baby, your tiny invention so get out there and promote. Large studios have their own publicity departments but the small guy or gal has nothing apart from their reputation by recommendation by friends. To build that rep you've got to work at it and there are a number of tools that you have open to you. Previously there were only poster advertisements or papers, and later on there had been the TV to get the word out there about your film. The upward thrust of Net has impacted selling of independent film and the whole film industry as full. There are such a lot of different advertising tools that it can give you, it is tough to select. The smartest thing to do is hit them all because you'll need them.

When you're at the start stages of making your film start a blog. When you have that going and you are making regular entries turn your attention to making an emblem and then a domain. There are services out there that will make a brand for you but, as in pretty much everything, it is frequently better if you do it yourself. There any quantity of sites out there that offer domains and internet site building tools. When you have built yourself a site then you can submit it to a search engine. Make T-shirts and hats with your film symbol on them. A mate put her brand on knickers and sold them. So, after you made the regular web site go to Myspace and build a Myspace page for your film. After the Myspace page is done, put something up on YouTube. These are all free for the main part so use them.

Music artists have used Myspace to push their music and it has worked well so why don't you use it for the needs of promoting film. One of the more simple things you can do is to find someplace little that shows your kind of film and should be ready to let you show your film. There's sometimes an area for student public postings and fliers are all over these boards. Students love to see new and different material so if you can draw them in to view your film, that's an exceedingly efficient way to build a following (dare I say cult film) particularly if your film is quirky. This about exhausts all the free or ultra inexpensive systems of promotion. When you have your film to the point where you can do a premiere showing, you can consider preparing Media Kits to distribute to the local TV and radio stations. If you have got this massive with your picture then you could even need a publicist.
